Beliefs

First Presbyterian Church of Boynton Beach is a member congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA).  As a welcoming and inclusive congregation, it is our desire to see people come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and grow in their faith.

We believe in the sovereignty of God and the authority of scripture.  Our knowledge of God and God’s purpose for humanity comes from the Bible, particularly what is revealed in the New Testament through the life of Jesus Christ.  We affirm that God comes to us with grace and love through Jesus Christ, who lived, died and rose for us that we might have eternal and abundant life in Him.  Our salvation through Jesus is God’s generous gift to us and not the result of our own accomplishments.  It is everyone’s job – ministers and lay people alike – to share the Good News with the whole world.  That is also why the Presbyterian Church is governed at all levels by a combination of clergy and laity, men and women alike.  As Christ’s disciples, we are called to minister in his name.  We seek to continue his mission of teaching the truth, feeding the hungry, healing the broken, and welcoming strangers.  God sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within us, giving us the energy, intelligence, imagination, and love to be Christ’s faithful disciples in the world.

We believe authentic worship is an expression of our love for and our response to God.  Worship is evangelical because it is good news.  It is mission oriented because by it we are sent to serve Christ.  People join our church based only on their faith in Christ as their Lord and Savior.  For more on Presbyterians, see www.pcusa.org.
